What does the name mean?

I thought it was fun picking out a name when we were getting a puppy. I had wanted a girl and then I had a short list of names. I didn't get to meet my puppy in person until we picked her up (lots of photo's) and the breeder started calling her by the name I picked before we got her. I was nervous picking a name before meeting her, but it worked out okay.

So Minu means "bedazzled jewel" in Hindi (India). My husband has a friend named this and when we went to India I liked the name since its simple compared to so many
I found out it also means "heaven/paradise" in Persian.

The only bad thing is people think her name is "mino" like the little fish....and so I have to correct them.

What about everyone else?

It was so hard trying to find a name for Dexter, we went through a lot those first couple of days. I wanted to give him a Japanese name like Kyoji of Aki, and Timmy wanted to name him Ono which means "tasty" in hawaiian. I vetoed that one real quick! Anyway we were stuck between Bruiser and something else, I actually can't remember right now, when we were going to pick him up from the breeder's. My dad came with us and first started calling him Dexter. I guess my dad met a Frenchie named Dexter who had the sweetest disposition and he thought our boy looked like a Dexter too. The name stuck and here we are today! He's actually starting to respond to his name now too!

Rusty is named thusly for his colouring.

Oogy's name has a couple cultural references;

Family Guy - Season 5 Episode 5 - Whistle While Your Wife Works
Jillian (speaking to Brian the dog): "Hey, Oogie!"

South Park Episode 610 - Bebe's Boobs Destroy Society
Butters(while poking Wendy's breast implants): "Eew! They're all hard and oogy!"

Raini's call name and registered name all go together. We decided before she was born to name her Raini. We knew she was going to be born in April and had been toying with naming her Aries if she was a boy. We were at a casino and went in one called the Rainmaker. I thought Raini would be a good name for boy or girl and my partner liked it.
After she was born and we knew she was a girl we really started thinking about what her registered name would be. It's VonBlazin's April Showers with the call name of Raini.

BTW, Raini got her AKC CD yesterday. It's her companion dog obedience title. so, she is now VonBlazin's April Showers CD RA OA OAJ CL3 CL4F CL4H

Even though everyone calls her Uma Thurman we didn't name her after the actress. lol! We wanted a short name and I came up with Ella or Emma but my husband thought too many flesh kids were named that so he came up with Uma. When we met her I thought she looked like an Uma so the name stayed.

Winston's Red Wrangler Ryder "Ryder". We live on Winston Court, I drive a Red Wrangler, and it just fit. We had a couple other ideas, but this one just sounded better.

It was a toss of Lily or Kali....I had thouht of a lot of cute ones for boys names though. I couldn't decide. My grandson watches Mickey Mouse in the morning and drags a Minnie and Mickey around the house. I drive a Mini Cooper....so my daughter suggested Minnie and it totally fit! She was on the small size...14 weeks old now and 4.8 lbs. Grandson very happy with the name too!

I didn't actually pick Poppy's name, but I'm really happy with it. It fits her.

My roommates at the time got 2 BT sisters and were going to name the Hailey and Katie.... when they got them though, they didn't seem to fit the puppies at all. My family has a tradition of naming all the pets after a theme (the cats are roman emperors, the fish were named after countries, etc)... so when Hailey's name was changed to "Sweetpea's Rosebud" (Rosie), I suggested they pick a flower name for the other puppy and Poppy was a dark redish color as a puppy, it just seemed to fit and she became "Our Little Red Poppy" (Poppy).

Then when I ended up adopting Poppers, I liked the name Poppy and she answered to it, so we kept it.

My all time favorite tv show is Andy Griffith, so Opie is named for Opie Taylor. Our Westie is named Grace because she's as beautiful as Grace Kelly.
