Default Pulled muscle or...
Old 02-20-2010, 10:40 PM   #1 (permalink)

My puppy was being his usual bouncy self and fell off a chair arm and landed on his legs backwards. He yelped and put no weight on his leg so we rushed him to the after hours vet. They brought him out running and playing on it...and the vet said he was probably just stunned but the likelihood of any real damage is slim. She palpitated his joints and no sign of pain or resistance and he showed no lameness.

Well, a few days later he jumped hard when playing and favored that same leg, should I have gotten xrays or is this just a sore leg as the vet suggested?

I wouldn't worry, my pup Bailey does the same thing.. sometimes she plays a little too hard jumping around and will start limping. I will just massage her leg and after a few min she is back to bouncing around.

He could still be sore from his first fall, time will tell, puppies heal fast!

Very bad news...he has a luxating patella that wasn't there when he was a puppy. Both parents are CH and have clear tests for eyes, hips, and patellas. Very upset right now...

I am so sorry =( What are you thinking of doing about it? Does the vet think its bad enough for surgery?

Vet and I think its best to hold off on surgery for now. We have an exercise plan that includes swimming and walking hills. We are also going to get on a good joint supplement. It wont reverse the issue but it will help strengthen the muscles and tendons.

I'll still show him in conformation but he will not be bred with this condition.
