Default Chloe Spayed need advice
Old 02-24-2010, 04:02 PM   #1 (permalink)

So chloe got spayed on Monday and she has been really groggy. She is wearing her "Cone of shame" and I remove it to allow her eat more easily. when its off, she dosnt even attempt to lick her wound. The vet's instructions were to leave the cone on for ten days, but I feel guilty having her wear it for so long b/c its pretty tight around her neck, and must be uncomfortable. How long did some of you have your bostons wear the cone for? Did you actually make him/her wear it for so long?

My Lu-Lu couldn't eat with the cone, so I bought her an inflatable collar. She did fine with that. I'll warn you though, Chole will be hyper in a few days. Lu-Lu started out really groggy and spaced out, and then after 2 or 3 days she was back to her crazy self. Good luck with the rehabilitation, and keeping your girl calm once the grogginess wears off!

Emma never wore one and was fine. She left the staples alone and was back to herself in no time.

My vet never suggested a cone for Bogie but he did for the Chi's, I took them off as soon as I got home and just watched carefully. They didn't lick so I kept them off, no problems. Don't they look so pitifull with them on?

I think that if you can keep an eye on her I wouldn't bother with the cone.
But if there are times you can't monitor her I would put the cone on. It's better safe that sorry and back at the vet

I would keep it on unless your watching her 24-7, not worth the damage that can be done with licking and chewing the incision.

The vet didn't even give us a cone for our chloe but she didn't bother with her wound at all, just a couple of days of sleepyness and the back to her normal bouncey self.

No we didn't When we were around the cone stayed off and we kept on eye on Uma just in case she licked her wound. We only kept it on when we couldn't watch her. She sure did hate that cone. lol!
