Default Sick Stomach
Old 03-10-2010, 06:39 PM   #1 (permalink)

Lucie is very spiteful so everytime I leave the house regardless of how long she usually craps on the floor, and always eats it except for a few crumbs and you can ALWAYS count on her getting queasy. She usually will vomit , which thank god for hard flooring but it still smells.. is there anything I can give her to sooth her stomach after she does such a rotten thing?

***I just need to add after reading some simular posts.... half the time she cant finish it.. so i already know it tastes bad, I think she's just hiding it. Also I dont think there is anyway of her growing out of it because she is almost 4 and I think that is just her guilty pleasure ( we all have one )
I just wish she would re-serve the dish.

Have you tried crating her? She may just not be able to handle the large space and might be scared--not spiteful (not something dogs feel).

Sounds like she's cleaning up after herself--some dogs just do that. I'd try crating her--might make her relax.

Many dogs eat their own feces. It's actually quite common. You should talk to your vet.

Lucie is special, and she IS in fact vengful I can grab something at the grocery store for 15 minutes and I'll come home to 2 or 3 dumps on the floor, after she has been out all day, I am very aware that its common... I have accepted that I am only wondering if theres anything to do to help her sick stomach afterwards???

I already have a crate and Charlie is already using it.. I really don't want to have to crate Lucie any other sugestions?

Any reason why you don't want to crate her? Nothing wrong with both dogs being crated. It'll calm her down I bet.

That's the only advice I have for this problem. She definitely won't crap in her crate, as long as it's not a big cage but an actual crate.

I wasent sure if you can crate both of them in one crate.. I guess it wouldnt hurt because they do like to snuggle..
I just didnt try that b/c I was afraid of maybe one of them getting mad and biting.. I should try that

Yes--get a crate. I'd give you one of my extras if you were nearby

As for vengeful, it really is projecting human characteristics on the dog. Patricia McConnell is a great behaviorist to read--lots of great books. She's a PhD in applied animal behavior and has a lot to say about the subject. It really helps a lot to know how a dog thinks when dealing with these situations, so I highly recommend picking up at least "The Other End of the Leash" for some good, basic information. We all think our dogs are special, and indeed, the are! but they have vastly different thought patterns than we primates

^^ I'm reading that book right now, about half way through it and it is a great book!

I don't believe that dogs can feel spite, more likely she is feeling stressed and insecure. I think a crate will help her feel less stressed when you are gone. Being in a crate is a natural instint for dogs, it is their den.

We have been doing a lot of renovating in the house the past couple months, so the routine has been disturbed and I found that Tank will go curl up and sleep in the closet where it is dark and quiet. His crate is out on the living room, so he found another 'den'. Tank likes for his crate to be covered except for the door.

I've never used it, but I've seen this suggested by many others, http://www.rescueremedy.com/pets/
You can give Tums and Pepto Bismol to sooth an upset tummy, just check on the dosing for your pup.
