Default Puppy vitamins?
Old 07-01-2009, 04:56 PM   #1 (permalink)

Has anybody ever given their puppy a vitamin suppliment? I know that petco has a vitamin gel for puppies, but I was just wondering if it's worth it or not. I worry that Dex isn't getting enough vitamins and calcium from just his dog food, so if someone has any suggestions that would be great! (also I want him to have more calcium/minerals so his ears will stick up faster!)

If your feeding a high quality food you dont need to worry about supplementing him unless your vet advises it. Ask your vet about it next time you see him (or her), or make an appointment to talk about it. They should be able to tell you if your pups getting enough from her food.

I gave Emma chewable tablets the first couple months that I had her because she seemed so tiny. Now she is a healthy horse. 13 lbs.

+1 Kongs work great!!! Also i have been giving Sally Puppy Vitamins along with her dog food, she just loves them (kinda like a treat for her). You may find some puppies dont like them so dont get a big bottle of vitamins till you know if Dexter likes them or not.

Dexter has lots of chew toys, I actually just got him a JEEP brand rubber thing yesterday that he absolutely LOVES! His daddy drives a JEEP, so when he saw the toy he loved it too!

I was thinking about it and I figure that Dexter wouldn't look like the same dog with his ears up right now, I kind of hope its a real gradual thing that happens because his little expressions with his floppy ears are ADORABLE! I do want them to stand up eventually, but I love him and think he's good looking as is.

Yeah, I agree with Ginnafer, high quality food is likely all you need unless there is a deficiency or something. For instance, we had an older dog that we gave glucosamine supplements to help with her arthritis.
