I bet they dont have much trouble finding him a home. If I could take on another dog, and didnt live several states away I'd take him in a second!

If they weren't so picky.

Is rescue too picky? I talked to a guy recently that was told he was a bad home for a rescued pit bull because he works all day. He went to a breeder and got a pit. He does agility with the dog and he is a sweetheart!!

I know one of the best dog owners who has a wonderful boxer. She was going to adopt another one one from a boxer rescue but they turned her down!

Why specifically did they get turned down? As far as working long hours, it is because studies have shown that dogs who have to hold it for 8+ hours are more prone to developing bladder cancer than dogs who are let out at least once every 5-6 hours. I dont have any links but I can try to find them again.

This is quite a touchy subject with me, I've only been involved with rescue for a month or so now, but the vast majority of people have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. Rescues are "picky" for a reason, they will not place a dog in a home that they arent sure will be the best fit. We arent here to serve people, its always about the dog. People get turned down because they dont want to put up a fence when its necessary, they think its ok for a BT to live outside year round, HW pills are a crock, and so on. Not saying thats the case with your friends, but if they were turned down it was for a reason.

We rescued/adopted Rusty from the dog pound (not from a formal rescue agency) and they were picky too. They sent someone out on the same day we took him home to confirm that our home was suitable for him with fenced yard and so on and even followed up with our vet to see if we had brought him in to get neutered like we promised.

A lady I know from the dog park has adopted a few rescue dogs (2 mini schnauzers & a sh*tzu) to add to her dog pack and was turned down for her last application to rescue another dog because she already has 5 dogs (and 2 cats).

Like Ginnafer said ... it's about the dog and for the dog's benefit that they are picky about who is adopting them.
